Scholarships for International Students

Japan offers numerous scholarship opportunities funded by the government, universities, and private foundations. These may include tuition support, accommodation assistance, and monthly stipends.

MEXT Scholarship:

The most prestigious award. Covers Full Tuition + Round Trip Flights + Monthly Stipend (¥144,000). Application is via the Japanese Embassy in your country.

JASSO Honors Scholarship:

A monthly stipend of ¥48,000 for privately funded students with good grades.

University Tuition Reduction:

Most private universities offer a 30%–50% tuition waiver for international students.

Scholarships are competitive and subject to eligibility criteria and deadlines.

Stay & Immigration

International students require a student residence permit to study in Japan. After graduation, students may be eligible for post study stay options depending on current immigration regulations.

Japan wants you to stay. After graduating, you can apply for the "Designated Activities (Job Hunting)" Visa, which gives you 1 year to find a job.

Once hired, you switch to a standard work visa. If you graduate from a global Top 100 university, the new J-Find Visa gives you 2 years to look for work or start a business.
